All-New 2025 Toyota Hilux Coming Soon: Here’s What to Expect
JamesJun 24, 2025, 11:25 AM

【PCauto】The eighth-generation Toyota Hilux has been available for nearly ten years since its debut in 2015. As one of the best-selling pickup trucks globally, this model is now approaching the end of its product life cycle. The next generation Hilux was spotted during road tests this January, which is expected to be launched in the second half of this year.
From the spy photos, despite heavy camouflage covering the front fascia and cargo bed, a completely new design language is recognizable. The front end features a more three-dimensional grille structure, while the LED headlight appears sharper in profile than the current model. The wheel arches have been improved, combined with increased ground clearance (projected to reach 235mm), giving the vehicle a more powerful stance. Notably, the test vehicle’s rear bumper includes reserved positions for a trailer hitch, suggesting potential improvements in towing capacity.

Three Major Upgrades for The 2025 Hilux
In terms of powertrain, the 2.8L 1GD-FTV diesel engine will be upgraded to its second-generation version, with output expected to increase from 150kW to 165kW and peak torque boosted to 500Nm. The chassis architecture is built based on a reinforced TNGA-F platform, where the application of high-tensile steel has improved torsional rigidity by approximately 20% while achieving a 50kg weight reduction.

Off-road capabilities receive significant upgrades. Combined with the frequency-sensitive damping valve technology revealed in patent filings, the 2025 Hilux will provide enhanced both off-road capability and on-road comfort. The Multi-Terrain Select system introduces a new Rock Crawl mode, combined with geometric settings of a 34° approach angle and a 26° departure angle, pushing its off-road capabilities closer to professional contenders like the Ford Ranger Raptor.

The interior revamp is equally noteworthy. High-end model will feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, supporting wireless connectivity and OTA updates. The center console offers 30% more storage space, with the adoption of an electronic shifter freeing up additional room. Catering to Southeast Asia’s tropical climate, ventilated seats will be available as an option, while a JBL audio system targets premium user groups.

Thailand Plant Will Begin Production First
The market strategy of 2025 Hilux demonstrates distinct regional characteristics. The Travo variant, expected to be the first model produced at the Thailand plant, will include exclusive off-road packages including heavy-duty skid plates and all-terrain tires. However, the introduction of hybrid systems brings cost challenges, with the hybrid version initially estimated to be 15-20% more expensive than the diesel version.
Facing competition from rivals like the Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max, the 9th generation Hilux adopts a technology transfer strategy, making Land Cruiser’s off-road technologies more accessible to the public. The final production version is expected to debut globally in Thailand in the third quarter of 2025, followed by launches in Australia, the Middle East, and other markets.
