Proton launches e.MAS 5 nationwide tour, price after launch will be cheaper than e.MAS 7

【PCauto】Proton is building momentum for the upcoming launch of its entry-level electric vehicle, the e.MAS 5, through a large-scale nationwide roadshow titled “MISI 5”. Running from August to October 2025, the tour will span 29 cities across all 13 states in Malaysia, and it is expected to draw even more attention than the earlier campaign for the e.MAS 7.

According to the itinerary released by PRO-NET, Proton’s new energy subsidiary：

The roadshow will kick off from August 8–10 in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, covering iconic locations such as Batu Caves and KLCC, as well as several Proton dealerships.

The tour will then move to northern Malaysia (Penang, Perak, Kedah), followed by the East Coast (Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan), and southern states (Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka).

The final leg will reach East Malaysia—Sarawak and Sabah—from September 25 to October 5.

At each stop, the event will feature engaging activities where the public can get up close with the e.MAS 5, explore its smart technology features and spacious design, and interact directly with product experts.

More Affordable Than e.MAS 7

As Proton’s second electric vehicle following the e.MAS 7, the e.MAS 5 is positioned as a more accessible option. Developed based on the Geely Xingyuan platform, the e.MAS 5 is characterized by a compact hatchback design and is expected to be priced between RM 90,000 and RM 110,000, making it one of the most affordable EVs in the Malaysian market. The model is primarily targeted at young urban drivers, small families, and first-time EV buyers.

From a technical standpoint, the e.MAS 5 will be available with two motor options: 58 kW and 85 kW, with a top speed of 135 km/h, meeting the daily commuting needs of urban drivers.

In terms of battery configuration, the model offers two variants: a 30.1 kWh battery (with 310 km CLTC range) and a 40.1 kWh battery (with 410 km CLTC range). Both support DC fast charging and AC home charging. For safety, the e.MAS 5 comes equipped with six airbags and an L2-level advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), maintaining Proton’s strong focus on safety—even in this budget-friendly EV.

Q4 Launch and Localization Strategy

The official launch is scheduled for Q4 2025, with plans for local assembly (CKD) at Proton’s EV plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak. This will help reduce production costs and reinforce the model’s competitive pricing, while also laying the groundwork for future exports to Southeast Asian markets.

As Malaysia’s EV infrastructure is gradually upgraded and consumer environmental awareness grows, the entry-level EV segment is poised for rapid growth. Built on the success of the e.MAS 7, Proton aims to accelerate EV penetration with an even more cost-effective offering.

In addition to the e.MAS 5 and e.MAS 7, Proton is reportedly planning to launch several new models over the next year, aiming to cover a wider range of niche markets.
