Suzuki eVITARA pure electric SUV is about to enter the Malaysian market, competing with BYD Atto 3

[PCauto] The official distributor, Naza Eastern Motors, has confirmed plans to introduce the eVITARA, which is expected to officially launch in 2026.

eVITARA will initially enter Malaysia through imports

Suzuki has submitted an application with its local partner, Bermaz Auto, for the expansion of an EV assembly plant, potentially paving the way for localized production of the eVITARA.

However, the initial models are likely to be brought in as CBU (completely built-up) units, consistent with Suzuki‘s current strategy of selling Japan-imported vehicles in Malaysia.

The eVITARA is Suzuki’s all-electric model developed based on the fuel-powered Vitara, which was launched in European and Japanese markets in 2024.

The vehicle adopts a modern design language with dimensions of 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,635mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700mm, positioning it in the B-Segment all-electric SUV market.

The international version of the eVITARA offers three powertrain options:

The entry-level version is equipped with a front-mounted single motor, delivering 144PS/189Nm, paired with a 49kWh battery;

The long-range version also uses a front-mounted single motor, with output increased to 174PS/189Nm, paired with a 61kWh battery;

The flagship version features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, offering a combined output of 184PS/300Nm, also paired with a 61kWh battery. According to WLTP standards, the maximum range can reach 500 kilometers.

eVITARA Interior Configuration

The eVITARA interior features a dual-screen design, equipped with a 10.1-inch central control screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel.

The high-end version is expected to include 12-color ambient lighting, 360-degree panoramic imaging, a JBL audio system, and electrically adjustable driver seats.

In terms of safety, it will be equipped with a complete ADAS system, including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS).

eVITARA to Compete Directly with Atto 3

In terms of market positioning, eVITARA will compete directly with the BYD Atto 3 (priced at approximately RM123,000). It is worth noting that if the Malaysian government does not extend the tax exemption policy for imported pure electric vehicles beyond the end of 2025, the pricing of eVITARA upon its 2026 launch could face challenges. Current predictions estimate its price range to be between RM130,000 and RM160,000.

However, its twin-car relationship with the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV may bring complexities to market competition. Nevertheless, leveraging Suzuki’s expertise in the small car segment and its brand recognition, eVITARA is poised to secure a position in the rapidly growing electric SUV market.

The Introduction of eVITARA Marks a Shift in Suzuki’s Market Strategy in Malaysia

Previously, Suzuki focused on the niche market with only two imported models, Jimny and Swift Sport. However, with the successive introduction of Fronx and eVITARA, Suzuki seems to be moving towards the mainstream market.
